Conny Plank by Geeta Dayal (Frieze Issue 148)

Conrad “Conny” Plank was a musician and producer born in Hütschenhausen, Germany. His work as a sound engineer and producer helped shaped the sound of many famous bands and artists during the 1960′s to the 1980′s, often using experimental techniques that would go on to influence studio production and engineering techniques.

Plank produced notable artists such as Kraftwerk, Neu!, Cluster, Harmonia, Brian Eno, David Bowie, P.I.L, Devo and Ultravox amongst many more.

Here, writer Geeta Dayal uses new interviews with Plank’s many collabarators to reflect on his life and work.
